My full name: Zishan Hussain Razvi

Nickname: Hyder. Its so popular among my childhood friends that my real name would be totally alien to them!

My family: I come from a close-knit business family in the sleepy town of Aurangabad in Maharastra. I have an elder sister and two younger brothers who are well placed in their careers. As for my immediate family, my wife, Hashmath is a postgraduate in Child Psychology. Tehniyat, 12, our daughter, is aspiring for a career in Medicine, and our son Wasib, 9, can always be found on the cricket field, busy breaking some batting records and in the process, a few window panes too!

Studies: I studied right from KG up to SSC at Holy Cross English High School, Aurangabad. Incidentally, Bollywood actress, Preity Zinta was my junior in the school. I completed Production Engineering from Jawaharlal Nehru Engineering College, Aurangabad, in 1991, and won the ‘Best Student of the College’ award.

Extra-curricular activities: I was always in the forefront of cultural activities, social service, cricket, rock climbing, trekking etc. I won awards for stagecraft while participating in various dramatics competition at university and state level. I was a keen trekker and rock climber, with ‘Grade A certificate’ from the instructors of Himalayan Mountaineering Institute.

My career – early years: Being selected by Bajaj Auto Ltd., as a Graduate Trainee Engineer in the campus placement, was the beginning of my career. But soon I realized it was difficult for me to remain confined to one area and the same set of people. This feeling landed me in a sales job with Fenner (India) Limited.

Becoming an L&T-ite: Just after a year, I came across an advertisement for the position of Sales Engineer in Eutectic Division of L&T. I joined in April 1995 and I knew that this was the job I have been yearning for. It would be a gross understatement if I say that I enjoyed every single moment of 10 years I spent with Eutectic.

Achievements: Though I achieved many a milestones, guiding my team to the top in the years 2002-03 and 2003 –04, is something I cherish the most. I won the VP’s citation in 2002-03 and ‘Best All India Equipment Executive’ award in 2003-04.

Returning to L&T: After having my share of thrills in Eutectic, I joined a company in Saudi Arabia – Saudi Pan Gulf. I headed the business activity in the Eastern part of Saudi Arabia. In less than a year I got the opportunity to return to L&T, and be a part of Valves Business Group.

Since June 2006, I am based in Kuwait and have gained valuable insights on business dynamics in this territory.

Sports: Being in Kuwait, there is little chance to indulge in sport activities, nevertheless I enjoy watching Cricket and an occasional game of badminton. And then I am also a keen follower of politics, for I think it is most exciting sport which is played in India!

Sports person I admire the most: Ravi Shastri, for his resilience, determination, knowledge of the game, clarity of communication and also for the aura and style he has.

Cooking: If you count boiling eggs or making instant tea, well, I am an expert cook!

Favorite Cuisine: You got to be an Aurangabadi to know this – a dish called Naan Khalia; it’s extremely hot and totally ethnic.

Destination Chill-out: The Mountains. They provide absolute peace and serenity.

My greatest achievement in life: I value my relationships more than anything else and I feel it is a biggest achievement for me not to have lost any friends owing to disputes.

Three things that most people don’t know about me:
1. I would love to be a trainer someday.
2. I am dead scared about flying, especially the take offs.
3. I was a serious student of palmistry, but when few of the predictions came true I abandoned the hobby!
