Padmaja Vema uncut (of course, except for that cut on her head)

My full name: Padmaja Vema

Nickname: Paddu – Thats what my dad calls me.

Family: My dad, Mr. V. Ravindranath is a businessman and my mum, Mrs. V. Vasantha Kumari is a home maker. My sister, Ms. V. Pavithra works for Scope International and is doing her MBA. I was the first grand daughter in a big joint family and naturally was everybody’s pet!

Studies: Being a brat has its share of disadvantages! Unable to bear my tantrums at home, my parents packed me off to school at the tender age of 2.5 years! I did my schooling at Vivekananda Vidyalaya, Chennai and later on graduated as an Instrumentation and Control Engineer from Dr. M.G.R College of Engineering, Chennai.

Awards and achievements:

  • Though most youngsters would consider it uncool, I proudly proclaim that I got an award in College for 100% attendance!
  • I secured full marks in the ‘Hydraulic and Pneumatic Actuator’ paper in my 6th Semester

My career – The beginning: After completing my graduation, I worked as a Trainee Software Engineer in Icon Technologies for a year. My job involved creating programs and providing solutions for customers in Oman and Singapore.

Becoming an L&T-ite: My association with L&T Valves started in October 2003. After an year in the HQ, I was transferred to Valves Sales – Southern Region. I handled projects from our Engineering Construction & Contracts Division and also customers from Sri Lanka. Recently I moved back to Division to handle the execution of the Reliance JERP project.

Achievements: I play an active part in the smooth execution of Reliance Projects.

Memorable moment in L&T: The wonderful time we had in Kuala Lumpur during the Sales Conference last year.

Memorable moment in my college life: When a lot of people including the Principal and the Founder congratulated me for securing full marks for one subject in the 6th Semester.

Most memorable moment in my life: When my dad hugged me with tears welling up in his eyes on my graduation day.

An unforgettable incident that happened to me as a kid: When I was seven years old, I was hit on the head with a coconut shell by a mentally disturbed woman (Now you know! – Editor)

I am scared of: Heights and darkness.

Sports: I was an active member in my school volley ball team; I had this absolutely unplayable serve.

Favorite Sport: Chess

The Sports person that I admire the most: Viswanathan Anand

Cooking: I love trying out new recipes and testing it on my family members.

Destination Chill-out: Switzerland

Role models: My mom and dad

A celebrity whom I would like to meet: Sunita Williams

My goal in life: To make my parents proud and happy throughout my life.
