The Valves Business Group of L&T has bagged a multi-million dollar order from Coastal Gujarat Power Limited (CGPL) for supply of critical valves for an Ultra Mega Power Project in Mundra, Gujarat. CGPL is a part of the Tata Power Company limited, which is one of India’s largest private power companies.

This 4000 MW (5×800 MW) power project is one of the first ultra Mega Power Projects (UMPP) in India and the first ever order for VBG in UMPP domain. The project site, approx 1000 Hectares is located south of Tunda Wand village in Mundra Taluka, Kutch district of Gujarat.

L&T would supply the entire range of Gate, Globe and Check valves in pressure classes 150 to 3500 for the balance of plant at Mundra. The supply worth multi-million dollar, comprises of 5775 valves including 770 motor operated valves and many are for critical application.

This prestigious order was received from CGPL after a stringent bidding process against stiff competition from other suppliers including multi national companies. According to Mr. S P Rajanish, Senior Deputy General Manager, L&T-VBG “We are honoured and excited on wining this prestigious order from CGPL and we will build a long term relationship with Tata Power and CGPL by adding more value to their business”.

At Larsen & Toubro, we call our CSR initiative as ‘Project Prithvi’, where we proactively inform the stakeholders, on our plans and measures to counter various business challenges in all the three tenets (i.e. Economic, Environment and Social) in order to sustain the growth and performance.

This report was created for the several investors who are keen to know about the Governance practices, Vision, Values, codes of Business conduct and Ethics so that they get a fair deal in all their transactions.

Our sustainability reports are based on the GRI framework and can be used to benchmark organizational performance with respect to laws, norms, codes, performance standards and voluntary initiatives. The credibility of the report contents was confirmed by the accredited agency, Ernst & Young.

This is the first ever-corporate sustainability report to be brought out by an Engineering and Construction Company in India. Mr. A. M. Naik, Chairman & Managing Director of L&T, released the report, which is rated A+. The report communicates L&T’s sustainability and performance to stakeholders and helps in benchmarking with those of our peers internationally.

You may write to us below, for a copy of the sustainability report for the year 2008.

The recent step initiated by the Valves Business Group of L&T is towards product rationalization across manufacturing plants.

The products supplied by L&T are manufactured at our facilities in India – Audco India Limited (AIL) and China – L&T Jiangsu Valves Co Ltd, Yancheng (LTJVCL).

Our independent manufacturing facility in China, addresses the global requirements for the complete range of standard commodity carbon steel valves. Major end-users and EPC contractors have approved the supply of L&T brand of valves from China.

To align our manufacturing with industry demands and further strengthen our supply-chain logistics, we have initiated product rationalization across the manufacturing plants. The manufacture of Cast Carbon Steel Gate, Globe and Check valves in sizes 2 inch to 8 inch, ASME Cl 150 and Cl 300 rating, in body material of ASTM A216 Gr WCB as well as ASTM A352 Gr LCC (or LCB) have been suspended in Audco India Limited.

The above range of carbon steel valves will be available from our facilities in China (LTJVCL).

Valves in other material of construction such as Low Chrome Alloy steel, Stainless steel and other High Alloys in all sizes will continue to be manufactured and supplied from AIL facilities in India.

L&T as a brand has always strived to offer better customer service, and this initiative to rationalize our product offerings will certainly help us further leverage our commitment to serve customers. We will be pleased to clarify any queries with regard to this announcement.
